"Music Notes" for Monday, January 5, 2009

Hi, Ladies -

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  It seems like so long since I have talked with you - I hope your holidays were wonderful, and you are relaxing now that they are over.  My trip to Texas was great (although the traveling itself was very difficult!), and I got the best news ever - my "rock-star" son & his wife are going to have a baby!  A little girl - their first baby, and my second grandbaby, due in June - needless to say, I am beyond excited!!

It's 2009 - time to turn another page in our musical adventures.  We have new music to learn, old music to remember for singouts, and contest songs to get really good.  You probably remember that we skipped committee meetings in December, so Donna & Judie L. would like to start with them this Monday.  There is much to talk about and think about as we head for contest in April.

So, this is the plan for Monday:

6-6:45 - Committee meetings
6:50 - Gather & Greet
6:55 - Let's Get Moving
7:00 - Vocal warmups
7:15 - Chordbusters, Great Day, AYG (music & choreo)
8:00 - Once Upon a Time (p.1), Hooked on Classics (Wm. Tell)
8:30 - Chapter meeting & break
8:45 - If You Love Me
8:55 - Unity Circle of Friendship - Irish Blessing
9:00 - It's Great to be a Sweet Adeline!

We've had a long holiday break, and it will be good to be back together again - I can hardly wait!  Have a great weekend, and keep a song in your heart!  Judie :)

"Music Notes" for Friday, December 18, .2008

Hi, Ladies -

Congratulations on all the fine performances you have given this holiday season!  Many of you made it to most, if not all, of the singouts, and spread a lot of Christmas cheer throughout our communities.

I am sure you touched many hearts, even if people didn't say so out loud.  I want to share a story with you:

Last weekend, I was at a craft show, and heard my name called out: "Mrs. Shaaarpe" - I looked around and didn't see anyone I knew, but saw one lady smiling broadly at me from one of the craft tables.  I walked over to her, and she said, "you're the Sweet Adeline director, right?", and I said "yes".  It turns out that she had been at the cookie-exchange singout at Sequim Bible Church - she sat in the front row.  She told me that she had just lost an elderly friend, and was missing her a lot.  One of our gals in the 2nd row, to my left (as I look at the chorus), reminded her so much of her friend, as she had first known her 30 years ago.  Our gal caught her eye, and the two of them smiled back & forth at each other throughout the performance.  When we were done singing, and on our way out, our gal said to her, "Merry Christmas to you", and the lady said she just about cried.  She felt like her friend was back with her again.

Like I said, you never know whose heart you are going to touch, or when.  I'm sure there have been many stories like that this season, whether we hear about them or not.

I will be in Texas from Dec. 22-29:  Austin, with my daughter, son-in-law, and 2 year-old grandson Bryson, for Christmas, then driving to Dallas to see my son in the final 2 concerts of his 2-month tour with Mannheim Steamroller.  (He is the drummer!)  A whirlwind, dream vacation for Tom & me!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and most wonderful holidays.  You're all a blessing in my life!  Love, Judie :)

More "Music Notes" for Monday, December 15, .2008

Hi, Ladies -

What a great party - I hope you all had as much fun as I did!  Much thanks to Melody & Penny for planning the games, prizes, and general flow of the party - and thanks to all who brought food, punch, decorations, and those who entertained us with line dancing, quarteting and octeting, poems, and sing-alongs!  If you were unable to attend, you can see that you missed a fabulous time! (Hope our sick-ones are feeling better today!)

Thank you all for the wonderful gifts you gave me - the Irish Blessing picture frame almost made me cry, and I know I will greatly enjoy the massage by our massage-master, Beth.  I also love the card that most of you signed.  You are all so thoughtful - I loved signing the new contract, too!  I am so honored that you want me to be your director for another year!  2009 will be a great year for us!

A quick note of thanks, too, to Top Of The List, who is representing our chorus in 5 additional singouts this week!  You go, girls!

One more singout tomorrow (hopefully, anyway - did we do too much "praying" for that snow?)  See you at 5 PM at Parkwood - Judie :)

"Music Notes" for Monday, December 15, .2008

Hi, Ladies -

This has been a wonderful year for our chorus - come on Monday night at 6:30 PM, and enjoy the year-end party.  There will be lots of food, fun, and TONS of singing - now's a good time for quartets (old, new, mystery, etc.) to perform!  There is no other agenda for this Monday night.  Even if you haven't been able to come to chorus for awhile, please try to come this time - a fun evening is guaranteed!

So, the plan for Monday is:

6:30 - PARTY!!!!
8:55 - Unity Circle of Friendship
9:00 - It's GREAT to be a Sweet Adeline!

Have a wonderful weekend - keep those songs in your hearts

Judie :)

"Music Notes" for Monday, December 8, .2008

Hi, Ladies -

Before our next actual rehearsal this coming Monday night, we have 3 more singouts!  Just a quick review:

Sunday (Dec. 7) - Cedars/Dungeness - warmups: 11:30 AM (Marcia), performance: 12:30 PM.

Monday (Dec.8) - Cedars/Dungeness - warmups: 6 PM, performance: 7-7:30 PM.

Monday (Dec. 8) - Sequim Bible Church - performance: 7:45 PM.

After this last performance, we will wander downstairs, and our own rehearsal will start around 8:15 PM.  We will start with our Chapter Meeting, to be sure and have enough time to talk about important things - that will be followed by our Welcoming Ceremony for Ginny and Janice!  (Be sure to check on the tag for Sweet Adeline!)

So, Monday is looking like this:

6:00 - Cedars/Dungeness, warmups
7:00 - Cedars/Dungeness, performance
7:45 - Sequim Bible Church, performance
8:15 - Chapter meeting & Welcoming Ceremony
8:45 - Mystery Quartet
8:55 - Unity Circle of Friendship - Harmonize the World
9:00 - It's GREAT to be a Sweet Adeline!

Here is the song lineup for Sunday:  Beginning/PC, Most Wonderful Time (Marcia), SOTM: Have Yourself a MC, White Christmas, Hark! (Marcia), Chopsticks, TOTL: Jingle Bells, I'll Be Home, Chestnuts (Linda), This Is My Country, Rudolph, SC Coming to Town, SEASONAL SWEETS: Santa Baby, Do You See?, Carol Medley, DDD, We Wish  (If this doesn't add up to 45 minutes, be ready to add Chordbusters & Great Day).

This is our busiest time of year - enjoy!  Have a great weekend, and keep those songs in your hearts! Judie :)
